Dr. Marc Geissberger

Dr. Marc Geissberger was born in San Francisco and raised in Marin County. He attended Marin Catholic High School. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, California. After completing his undergraduate degree he attended the University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry, earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1991. While in dental school he served as class president his first two years and as student body president during his final year. Additionally, he was elected into Omicron Kappa Upsilon and Tau Kappa Omega dental honor societies for scholastic excellence. In 1994 Dr. Geissberger earned a Masters of Arts in Educational Psychology from the University of the Pacific School of Education.

Dr. Geissberger has practiced in Marin since 1991. He splits his time equally between his private practice and teaching at University of the Pacific where he currently is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, School of Dentistry. He has maintained a faculty appointment continuously since 1991.

Dr. Geissberger has been awarded fellowship in the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He has won several teaching awards and completed a fellowship with the American Dental Education Association’s Leadership Institute. He has served at the President, President-Elect and Vice President of both the Supreme Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon and University of the Pacific’s Alumni Association. He currently serves as Pacific’s treasurer.

Dr Geissberger teaches several continuing education courses for fellow practitioners. He has presented 85 lectures and hands-on workshops to colleagues in the United States, Canada and Taiwan. He has co-authored and published 6 scientific papers and is currently writing a text book on Aesthetic Dentistry.

Dr Geissberger enjoys time spent with his wife, Christine and their three children, Justin, Robbie, and Annika. They enjoy travel, golf, gardening, and working on old cars. Dr. Geissberger also enjoys painting. You can see several of his works hanging in the dental office.

The use of composite resin material as a direct restorative has dramatically increased in the market place. What materials will you advocate for use in your practice? What has the literature been revealing on materials in current use? Should practitioners change their current techniques? This program will attempt to make sense of all of the products and techniques available in today’s market place. The lecture will focus on materials and their applications as well as a brief review of some of the literature.

Digital Photography – A Hands-on Program

Using both lecture and hands-on experience practitioners will be taught the principles of dental photography. We will concentrate on digital technology. This program introduces practitioners to the most current digital equipment and provides the basics for excellent, predictable clinical photography. This program will also introduce clinicians to digital enhancement programs through the use of a live demonstration.

Color In Dentistry, Its Role In The Aesthetic Arena

This presentation outlines the basic principles of color and applies them to the everyday practice of dentistry. Clinicians will better understand how important color is in the successful practice of dentistry. Everything from office design to restoration success will be discussed.

Porcelain Veneers

This program reviews the different systems of porcelain veneers. We will discuss everything from case design to cementation. This in depth program will enable practitioners to make immediate changes to the protocol which enhance both beauty and esthetics of their veneers. The practitioner will learn how to design the case, prepare teeth, place provisionals, and review a simplified predictable approach for cementing porcelain veneers. This program will introduce participants to preparation design, provisional technique, impression fabrication, placement techniques, and smile design for porcelain veneers.

This presentation will review the ethical principles which guide us as practitioners. Each of us will confront potential ethical situations centered on aesthetic dentistry. We will develop some central concepts and suggest ways of incorporating them into our daily practice. Practitioners should leave with a better understanding of today’s ethical issues.

Quarterbacking Difficult Cases in Restorative Dentistry

Have you ever heard the statement that if you got 10 dentists to treatment plan one case you’d have 20 different treatment plans? We all bring various approaches to clinical practice which are based on our training and clinical experience. This presentation will outline the tools necessary to treatment plan complex cases. In addition, the practitioner will be given several tools which will greatly enhance documentation and case acceptance. We will demystify the process of working up complex cases by breaking them down into fundamental segments and applying sound practice principles to those cases.

Aesthetic Dentistry Case Review

With a heightened public awareness of aesthetic dentistry it has become increasingly difficult to meet the public’s expectations. This presentation will utilize several cases that demonstrate various concepts in aesthetic dentistry. Through the cases, practitioners will gain insight into many of the various nuances necessary to manage difficult aesthetic cases. In particular, we will look at several cases with less than desirable results in an effort to learn from the case’s shortcomings.

This program will take practitioners through the history of dentistry in the media. Dentists and staff will better understand just what a significant role dentistry has played in media. Examples of dentistry’s role in media will be presented through still photography as well as video images. This audio-visual presentation will humor and enlighten all who attend.

The Whitening Craze continues. What materials will you advocate for your patients? Should practitioners offer a variety of options to their patients? This program will attempt to make sense of all of the products and techniques available in today’s market place. The lecture will focus on materials and their applications as well as cost analysis of various systems. Laser bleaching, light assisted bleaching, power bleaching, over the counter bleaching, take-home bleaching and other systems will be discussed.

Maximizing The Placement of Anterior and Posterior Composites

The use of composite resin material as a direct restorative for anterior and posterior restorations has dramatically increased over the past decade. What materials will you advocate for use in your practice? What has the literature been revealing on materials in current use? Should practitioners change their current techniques? What preparation design will you utilize? This program will attempt to make sense of all of the products and techniques and available in today’s market place. The lecture will focus on materials and their applications as well as a brief review of some of the literature. In addition, practitioners will have the opportunity to learn how to establish excellent proximal contacts, well-defined anatomy and harmonious esthetic results.

This program will explore the digital arena dentists find themselves confronted with. We will explore the many systems available to clinicians which can enhance their practice efficiency, productivity and appeals to the technically savvy patient base. We will wade through the various systems available and attempt to make sense of this quickly evolving area of dentistry.
