After running his private practice in Brazil for 6 years, Dr. Dias enrolled the graduate program in Operative Dentistry at the University of North Carolina, and was awarded a Master of Science degree. His emphasis in that program was adhesive and esthetic dentistry, research and teaching. Dr. Dias has lectured to several dental groups in the US and internationally on adhesives, composites, esthetic procedures in hands-on format, and has published many articles in international Dental Journals. He has also worked at Dentsply/Caulk as a dental research manager and his responsibilities included the design and implementation of clinical and field trials, running an internal practice, interfacing with faculty and clinicians and applying his vast clinical experience to product development programs and projects.

Lecture Topics
Dental Materials
Adhesives and composites in modern dentistry
A concise but solid portrayal about the past, present and future of adhesive technology will be addressed. Presenting a comparison between In-Vitro Studies and Clinical Trials, which is the ultimate test a composite material should be submitted to.

Determinants of gap formation in resin composites
An effective seal within the margins of any restoration is crucial in order to prolong the life of your restoration as well as the satisfaction of the patient. An array of factors are involved in the formation of gaps within the margins of a composite restoration. However, the prepared dentist should be able to overcome this obstacle in adhesive dentistry without major training.

The role of smart incremental technique in esthetic dentistry
From a more accurate anatomy to a better development of occlusion, the incremental technique for resin-based composite restorations is a handy tool that should be present in the dentist’s armamentarium.

The role of resin-based composite materials in the restoration of large defects
Large composite restorations should not be synonymous of short-term failures. The adequate use of composite materials may help the clinician postpone crown placements and may increase the scope of adhesive dentistry. Clinical placement and long-term control cases will be presented.

LED technology - what are the advantages?
From a more ergonomic aspect to a more specific curing power, LED technology is changing the whole concept of light-curing units used in dentistry.

Objectives:
To present up-dated information regarding the longevity of current resin-composites. To present state-of-the-art techniques to minimize sensitivity, gap formation and occlusal adjustment as well as to maximize obtained anatomic contour and esthetic results. To present and overview on current adhesive technology and its scope in modern dentistry.

Clinical Requirements of Modern Impression Materials and Provisionals

Course Description
The success of cemented or bonded indirect restorations strongly relies on a good impression of the prepared tooth and on a good provisional. Nevertheless, impression making can be a very frustrating process in the restorative dental practice because, among other things, dentists receive very little information on impression materials and techniques, either in dental school or in continuing education courses.

This presentation gives an overview of impression and provisional materials and techniques, with an emphasis on clinical properties. The presentation includes clinical tips on how to avoid problems and how to obtain the best provisionals and impressions possible.

Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants will have learned:

  • clinical properties of impression materials;
  • clinical tips to avoid problems with impressions and provisional fabrication;
  • how to obtain the best impression possible.
